Why are you still at home? Why isn’t she in daycare? Why are you doing that? Why are you wasting your time? Why aren’t you using your degree? What is up with all the “why” questions?

Why am I still at home? My “why”, is my daughter. She is the flame to it all. When I found out I was pregnant, my fiancĂ© and I decided that it would be best for me to stay home with her. However, I still wanted to be able to support his income. I have always had my own money. Why isn’t my daughter in daycare?I am not putting my daughter in daycare, there are too many horror stories on the news about daycares. I feel a lot better knowing that she is safe with me at home. Why am I blogging?

I blog to vent, to share my experiences searching for work, working from home, share how I manage to do this with my baby on my lap. I blog to help others land legit jobs that they can work from home. Why am I wasting my time?

I do not think that freelancing is a waste of time. Sounds like it but I know for a fact that this can be something amazing for some. This may be inspirational to others, this can help someone land a job and even prevent someone from being scammed. As long as you do your due diligence with the research portion. Why aren’t I using my degree?

I am using my degree. My degree has taught me a lot about mass communications. I never thought that I would use the knowledge that I gained from Professor Harrison, but here I am. Typing, writing and sharing my experiences.

Mom’s in pajama’s

Throughout my years I have always been looking for a way to work from home. I never thought it would lead me to this…blogging. I started this blog to share my experiences and share new leads to work from home that I come across.

My first experience working form home; while attending the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, a friend of mine was working from home taking orders from her desktop. I really wanted in! Unfortunately, I only had my laptop at that time. Eventually, I heard about a company doing secret shopping.

This was my first and last time being scammed. I just wanted to find a way to work from home. This company sent me a check, told me to cash it, go shopping and send them the receipt and report. I did as told and received a letter a month later stating that is was a fake check. Long story short…never again.

The next year, I heard of a company called Motor Club of America. It is similar to AAA. I had to pay to start and promote its products. The only I way I knew how to promote this company was through Facebook. I did a decent job. But I wanted better. After that, I gave up for a few years.

I graduated college and went straight to a warehouse making $16 an hour. I enjoyed the money but I still wanted to work from home and on my own time. After I found out I was pregnant, it hit me real hard!

I kept seeing news reports of children being abused in daycare, so I knew I would not be putting my daughter in any daycares. This made me realize I had to do something quick! I knew enjoyed writing because I did a lot of writing throughout college and started a blog. However, I did not have content.

When my daughter was around four months, I tried to work from home through the company Alorica. This company was decent. It was hard because my daughter would be in the background crying and was sometimes heard while I was on a call. The next thing I tried to do was find a job that was chat and email only.

I have not typed on a computer for a long time, so my speeding typing was not fast enough to meet the requirements to apply. I almost gave up. Then I was offered another job taking calls. This time my daughter was around 13 months. I did not even make it through training with all of her giggles, screams and simple, small, weird but cute noises.

Something just needed to give! This lead me back to writing again. Now, I finally have content (said the little voice in my head while putting my daughter to sleep)!

Now I give to you, Majama Boss. I made this blog to help others find jobs that they may have never knew existed. Throughout the years, I have subscribed to many websites, only to have my email full of unwanted advertisements. So I figured, “why not”? Why not focus on giving others the same leads I needed years ago.

Majama Boss came from “mom’s in pajama’s”. In my mind, I thought that this was catchy. Out loud, not so much. However, I like it. As a parent, I wanted to stay home with my daughter and still make a living. I knew that there are a lot of other moms and dads wanting the same thing. So this is definitely not only for mothers. This is for everyone.

What is Dropshipping?

Dropshipping is a special cost-effective selling technique. This helps resellers minimize inventory and stock-holding risks. If you participate in dropshipping, then you are a reseller. When a product is sold, the reseller (you) passes the customer’s information along to the dropshipper (manufacture or wholesalers). They send the item directly to the customer for you.

This process minimizes exposure for the wholesalers, since you do not have to purchase the items prior to selling. Essentially, this allows the reseller to expand the product range without having to think about the fast evolving marketplace and trends. This ultimately allows the reseller to focus on selling the inventory at no extra cost to the reseller.

This is perfectly legal retail fulfillment. This method is used by many people to create a successful e-commerce business. This is not a make a quick buck process. This still does require hard work, dedication and everything you can possible imagine when it comes to running a successful store.

Simply put, dropshipping eliminates the risk of inventory and logistical errors so all yo have to focus on is selling. The process of dropshipping looks like this:

Find a wholesaler who sells Iphones for $280. You list the phone for $380 on your website of other selling platforms. A customer sees the phone, decides to purchase the phone and buys it. You buy the phone from the wholesaler for $280 and email them the customer’s shipping information. The wholesaler sends the phone to the customer. Guess what? You just made $100.

Imagine doing this multiple times a day! This can be an amazing opportunity for anyone!!

Personally, I am a reseller. I sell mainly on Facebook and Instagram. Now, I have received my EIN number for my store and my sales and tax certificate. My next step is to sell at flea markets once a month.

With new technology being released every day, this has made it easier than before to start working from home as your own boss. It can seem tedious and even daunting. But with the proper qualifications, research and thoroughly taking the necessary steps to set up you business you give yourself a great chance at being successful. Here are a few small business ideas that can easily be started right at home.

Freelancing– This may be one of the easiest ways to start being your own boss. No matter your what your strength is graphical design, marketing, writing, taxes and photography; you earn money quickly. The tricky part of this is building clientele. 5 Side Hustles You Can Start Right Now

Hey everyone, welcome to my blog. My name is Abreyah and I know a lot of people want a side hustle to save up for a vacation or just to pay bills. Well I have found a few ways to make extra money with zero money out of pocket.

The first one is Relode. This platform is like speed dating but for jobs. Essentially you have to link up an employer with an applicant. When that applicant gets hired, you get paid. The lowest payout was around $1300 and the highest was around two thousand dollars. So if you can help two people per month, you are looking at a thousand dollars or more per month. The industry they focus on is Healthcare, so it would not be a smart idea to help someone land a job who has no experience.

The second one is Peio. This is where you are calling elderly people to remind them to take their medications. This company is looking for someone that can work about 15 hours per week, have a land line phone, computer, 18 years old and a US citizen. You also have to pass a background check. As long as you don’t have any violent or fraud on your record you should be fine. This job pays around $14-$15 per hour. This is a good hustle for spare time.

Number three is Vayable. This company literally pays you to walk around your city and show people your city. It is pretty much like being a walking guide. This is a great opportunity because you get to set your own hours. The downside to this is this will probably not work for someone in a small town, they would have to travel to be a big city for the opportunity. You can get paid up to $40 per hour.

Number four is Rodie. Through this company, you are turning your daily commute into cash. This is similar to Uber except that you are in delivery. You pick up the items and drop them off.

The fifth opportunity is Amazon Flex. In this position you are delivering Amazon packages to their customers. All you have to do is have a phone with the amazon flex application, reliable transportation and be able to life boxes that can weigh up to ten pounds. The pay is around $18-$25 per hour.

Work from home and get things done!

The dream of most stay at home parents is to work from home. Right? It seems like the best of both worlds to be able to lie in bed until five minutes before logging in to work. How about spending the whole day in the bed? You would think that is how this works….not the case. Well, at least that is not the case if you plan on getting things done.

I currently work completely from home. I make sure that I am updating my blog daily, I work for a call center from my home office and I have an online Boutique. I give my blog two hours of work, daily. I also give two hours of focus to my boutique. I focus on the boutique and blog around my call center schedule.

Working for the call center keeps me busy and alert. But I have to make sure that I have deadlines for my writing. If I want to get anything done, then I MUST be organized. Honestly, this did not come naturally, it took dedication.

My point is saying that is this, there are tricks you can do to work from home and still get stuff done.

Tips and tricks for working from home

  1. Work routine– Every day people are waking up, getting dressed and driving to work. You would do the same thing for remote work. As an example, I run errands, tend to my daughter, clean up the house and have food prepared before I have to work from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. (another tip: plan your day ahead of time).
  2. Get dressed– getting dressed is telling yourself it is time for business. When I first started working from home, I always got dressed. Now that I have been doing this for a few years, I stay in my pajamas.
  3. Go to work– I have my office set up in my room. However, I do advise to everyone, to have a room completely dedicated for office space. It does not have to be an extraordinary room. For others, this may mean taking your laptop with you to the pool (pool side obviously), beach or park. I am able to take my tablet with me for blog posts and my boutique. Just make sure that your office is set-up accordingly and clutter free.
  4. Have an internet usage policy– Just like the corporate office, have a practical internet usage policy. If it is against the rules to sit on Facebook while in the office; it should be the same way in your home office. The only exceptions are if you are genuinely on the computer for research purposes, content scheduling or social media marketing.
  5. Take your breaks– We are always tempted to continue to work, but please, make sure you take your lunch break. Remember to treat this as if you were in the corporate office. If you take a walk for your lunch break, then do it! If you have a ham sandwich for break, then eat it!
  6. Keep your pantry full– Always try to keep your fridge or freezer stocked with quick meals. You definitely don’t want you 30 minute lunch being stretched over two hours.
  7. Clock out– Although you are at home, it may feel very easy to keep working. Make sure you have a set time to clock out and STICK TO IT. The only exceptions, at times, are deadlines. My stop time is 11 pm eastern time, I sign out of my workspace. Just because I work from home and have calls while I am logging out does not mean that I have to take them.
  8. Turn the “work switch” off‘- Pretend you just left the corporate office, during the drive home is the chill or winding down from work time. For me, when I am done working for the day, I relax with a good book, or read to my daughter, turn on my favorite show or have a glass of wine. At 11 pm I am not taking my dog for a walk. If you have a day schedule then you definitely can!
  9. SET SOME BOUNDARIES– In all honesty, the hardest the part of working from home is being distraction free. It can be hard to persuade others that you are working from home. When I first started working from home, my fiancĂ© would come in the room just to peek at me or say hey. After a while, he realized that this was a serious job and I could not be bothered or distracted while on the phone. However, when I am working on my social media pages or this blog, he tends to peek to see if I am working on one of these. if I am, he will definitely come in and say hey. It does not really bother me especially since I like to take little breaks in between typing. When he sees the headset, he knows that I am not to be bothered. The same also goes for visitors. I keep a “Do not disturb or knock” sign on the door. I plan on getting on that says “WORKING”!
  10. Keep your friends– Although I work from home, I make it a priority to go out with some friends every once in a while. If some of my coworkers (that work from home) live nearby, we definitely link up.

I enjoy working from home because it lets me be able to watch my child grow up. I did not and still do not want to put my child in daycare because of all the horror stories on the news. I will not be taking any chances. I fell more comfortable knowing she is at home with me.
